Meet the Committee

The Huddersfield Ukrainian Club is part of the Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain.

Our committee, who are made up of volunteers, manages and is responsible not only for the club but also the promotion of Ukrainian traditions and culture in Huddersfield and beyond.

Below are the 2020 committee members.

John Kybaluk

(chairman)

Elected as Chair in 2018, John has overall responsibility of the management of AUGB Huddersfield. He is an active member of the community well known across other branches.

Previously as the Social and Sports Chairman, John was responsible for the organisation of many popular events including the 75th Anniversary Concert, New Year's Eve Malankas and Huddersfield’s Annual Volleyball Competition which recently celebrated its 30th Anniversary.

 

When not looking after the club, John can be found enjoying a beer in the main square of a European City.

Michael Semenczuk 

(vice-chairman)

The youngest member of our committee,  Michael joined AUGB Huddersfield as a volunteer member of the bar staff before taking the reins as Bar Manager, in between studying law at the University of Huddersfield.

Elected as vice-chairman in 2018, he has supported the club with Ukrainian cultural activities whilst also improving the policies and procedures needed to run a modern organisation

Petro Dorotiak

Although Petro joined the committee in 2020, he had already been running numerous events at the club prior to joining.

 

This included varenyky cookery lessons, pysanky writing, and adult Ukrainian languages lesson as well as managing the club's social media channels and web site.

Petro has always been a member of Huddersfield Ukrainian club and danced for many years in our Ukrainian dance troupe. He also has a keen interest in Ukrainian history of western Ukraine and genealogy.

Michael Drapan

(chairman of the control committee, master of ceremonies & club spokesman)

Michael has chaired the Control Committee which oversees the branch’s financial and administrative
accounts for over 35 years. He is also a former Principal of our Ukrainian School and has compered many
concerts and galas, including one in Ukraine.
Having retired as a Headteacher he is currently completing a thesis on the History of the Huddersfield
Ukrainian Community, 1948-2018, which is due to be published as a book in the near future.

Anna Drapan

(control-committee)

Anna is another member of our Control Committee, ensuring the club's finances are in check.


Outside of the Club Anna is an Associate at Eaton Smith Solicitors advising clients in Wills, Probate and administration of Estates.

Denis Dumskyj

Denis joined the Huddersfield Ukrainian community in 1967 and has been on various committees ever since. This included being Chairman of the Club Committee for 19 years from 1980 to 1999, and Secretary of the Association of Ukrainians Huddersfield Branch for approximately 7 years from 2002 to 2009. Even in his nineties he is still passionate about supporting the work of the Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain and enjoys being on the committee

Michael Fryszczyn

(home administrator)

Michael is the Home Administrator and keeps the committee up to date with the financial state of the branch as well as ensuring that any financial decisions are made in the best interests of our members.

 

Over the last number of years, Michael has raised hundreds of pounds for Yorkshire Air Ambulance, donning his lycras and taking part in the Huddersfield Town Pedal 4 Pounds Campaign

Roman Fryszcyn

Roman is the club's 'Hospodar' or handyman, responsible for ensuring the upkeep of the branch's building.

He can often be seen collecting fruits from the orchards to use in his homemade produce!

Maria Holt

(bar committee)

Maria joined the committee in 2019 and is also the teacher and choreographer of our dance troupe.

 

As a member of the bar sub-committee, she is responsible for advising on HR and personnel related matters.

Maria is an active member of the Ukrainian community. She helps bring a modern outlook to the Ukrainian traditions. 

Ihor Krawec

Ihor joined the Committee in 2016.

 

He returned to Huddersfield after a  period of over thirty years in London, originally working at AUGB Head Office for three years and then the NHS.

He now enjoys the fruits of early retirement.

Anna Kybaluk

Anna joined the committee in 2020 but has been an active member of the Huddersfield branch since a very young age, attended shkola and dancing in our Ukrainian dance ensemble.
 

She is always willing to help out at events and functions, not only organising but also performing general duties in the kitchen and bar.

Mick Maziar

(control committee)

Michael is a member of the control committee and is responsible for the auditing of the club's accounts and finances.

He was previously a member of the management committee and held the position of secretary.

 

Michael is also a member of the National AUGB mediation and disputes committee.

Stefan Ptycia

(branch secretary)

As our Branch Secretary, Stefan is  responsible for the management of Branch administration including organising meetings, dealing with all documentation and correspondence with the AUGB Head Office and any other organisations.

 

Stefan is a licensed conveyancer and also a keen musician, regularly attending the club's Jazz Jam sessions.

Mick Semenczuk

(branch treasurer & memberships)

Mick Joined the committee in 2011 and his current role is the Branch Treasurer and Membership Secretary.

 

Managing the clubs financial position, he is often on the phone to suppliers trying to get the best deal.

 

Mick regularly attends local club secretaries meetings to keep the committee up-to-date with affairs that may impact the management of our branch.

Tony Slywkanycz

Tony joined the committee in 2020 after being on the committee in previous years.

Tony works alongside Roman as 'Hospodar' or handyman, and is also responsible for the upkeep of the branch's building.
