The Team behind "Play for Ukraine"

As the unlawful invasion of Ukraine continues, we all feel helpless being so far away from humanitarian efforts.

However, one way we can make a difference is by raising money for the relief efforts, and this was the idea behind our 'Play for Ukraine' event.

This creation of our Ukrainian community members, Ihor and Mandy Cioch, and supported by Petro Dorotiak from our committee and the team from The Grove Pub, they brought together a great team of volunteers and acts to raise money for Ukraine.

Here we acknowledge the great team behind the event, who all raised approximately £11,000 for the AUGB's GoFundMe campaign.

The Grove Pub, Huddersfield

Ian, Taya, and Sophie from The Grove Pub, in Springwood, created an amazing guest bar, filled with beer donated by Magic Rock, Northern Monk, Lords Brewing, VarVar Brewer, and Marble Brewery, along with some Ukrainian Vodka sponsored by a customer from The Grove. Working all day, they raised an amazing £643!

To Ukraine with Love

To Ukraine With Love is a movement started at the Grove pub in Springwood by the staff, a few customers, and a local business owner. They have not only created amazing merchandise to raise money for Ukraine, but have also organised numerous fundraising events, raising over £16,000 so far for the AUGB, with many more events to come! Natalie from Mcnair shirts, and Ian, managed the stall on the day, and sold £977 worth merchandise! Find out more about To Ukraine With Love here.

The Chef's

Gary Pickles, an amazingly talented chef, gave up his free time to create some delicious culinary delights from Eastern Europe. Working alongside his good friend, Taya (from The Grove), they made Holubsti, Khachapuri Imeruli, Salad Olivier, Salo, and Shchilnik Cake.

We also had Easter Dove sweet bread for sale, which was baked and donated by Hartley's Bakers and Confectioners in Lindley.

Huddersfield Ukrainian Club

Our team of volunteers helped to run the event, from car parking to bar duties to setting up the event and clearing up. And a special thank you to our committee members, Stef and Ihor, who ran a fantastic BBQ and raised over £500.

Social Media

Petro and Leah Dorotiak managed the online ticket sales and marketing of the event.

Ticket sales raised approximately £1,000 and the event was sold out in record time.

Homemade Buns & Cakes

Home made cakes and buns were sold on the day by Hazel, Tess and Ziona - they raised £57. Thank you for all your hard work!

The Bean Brothers

The Bean Brothers, from Coffeevolution, came along in their fabulous bean van. Selling their tasty and much needed coffee all day, they raised a fantastic £280! Thanks guys.

Photo Gallery

Photos of the event were taken by local photographer Andrew Haigh, who was there via his association with The Grove as a regular customer, and offering his help. Andy is passionate about documenting the local area, it's history, traditions, and communities. He found being welcomed so openly to this special event a very heart-warming experience personally, and creatively. The Raffle

Sophia Fish, one of our committee members, personally organised a raffle over the last few week, raising over £5,000. Many businesses donated fantastic prizes and it was drawn on the day. Sophia also manned a table with Anna Drapan, selling various items for charity.

The Acts!

A special thank you to all the amazing performers and bands who donated their time.
